The Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays meet for the last time in 2013 with an afternoon bout Monday.
A year after capturing a Wild Card berth, Baltimore will be watching the postseason on television after a 3-1 loss at Tropicana Field saddled the Birds with four straight defeats. It seems the the past month has seen the team lose some winnable games overall and the spark is just missing for some reason. The offense has definitely slowed and did so once again Sunday which wasted a nice effort by Scott Feldman who gave up three runs over 6.1 innings to fall to 5-5. The support just wasn't there with a three hit, four walk attack getting an RBI double from Matt Weiters. Baltimore sends left hander Wei-Yin Chen to the bump to face Tampa Bay Monday afternoon. Chen looks to snap a five game winless skein where he has four no decisions and a loss with one quality start in the mix.

Tampa Bay has their fate in their own hands with the Wild Card belonging to them with a few more wins. The home field advantage is still up for grabs although I'm not sure that matters with the way this team has been playing. The Rays have now won eight of eleven after Sunday's victory with both the bats and arms on the same page. Having said that the pitching stole the show with six hurlers controlling the Baltimore lineup with Fernando Rodney getting the save despite allowing the lone run. David DeJesus paced the scoring with a solo jack while James Loney and Matt Joyce drove in runs. Chris Archer takes the ball Monday hoping to get his team a step closer to a Wild Card berth. Archer has been a tough customer over his last three trips to the mound with 1-1 record and 2.25 ERA.
The Orioles fought the good fight and the Rays have to fight a little longer although the O's might have a shot if they win out and every one loses. Just going with the hotter team here...
