The Cincinnati Reds and the New York Mets face off on Tuesday in Cincinnati for game two of their series in Cincinnati.
The Cincinnati Reds kept pace with all of the other leaders in the NL Central as all of them including the Reds won one run games on Monday. Shin-Soo Choo had three hits, Ryan Hanigan had two hits, and Brandon Phillips had a hit as the Reds scored three runs on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Johnny Cueto allowed three hits and two runs, one earned, while striking out five over 7.0 innings but it was Manny Parra who wound up getting the win. For Tuesday’s game the Reds start Mike Leake who is 14-6 with a 3.21 ERA for the season and 3-0 with a 0.84 ERA in his last three starts.

The New York Mets fought back late against the Reds on Monday but they came up short in extra innings. Lucas Duda hit a home run, Eric Young had two hits, and Daniel Murphy had a hit as the Mets scored two runs on six hits. Startig pitcher Aaron Harang allowed five hit sand two runs over 6.0 innings, as it was Greg Burke who took the loss. For Tuesday’s game the Mets start Jon Niese who is 7-8 with a 3.81 ERA for the season and 102 with a 4.66 ERA in his last three starts.
Cincinnati is 6-1 in their last seven games, 6-2 in their last eight home games, and 4-0 in Leake’s last four home starts. New York is 8-18 in their last 26 games as an underdog, 7-20 against a team with a winning record, and 2-5 in Niese’s last seven starts against the NL Central. New York is 1-9 in the last 10 meetings of these two.
The Reds are home, the better team, and have a ton to play for here making them a very easy choice.
