The Boston Red Sox visit Coors Field to face the Colorado Rockies in an interleague opener.
Boston is locked and loaded with their sights set on the first round of the postseason with the only mystery being who their opponent will be. Solid pitching and hitting has been prominent for this team in the past few weeks and both were at the top of their game Sunday in a 5-2 decision over Toronto. Felix Doubront had been struggling but not this time with both runs allowed on four hits over seven innings pitched. The bats made that a winning performance with Jackie Bradley Jr. cracking a three run homer while David Ortis went solo. Boston begins the series at Colorado with John Lackey on the mound. Lackey hopes to come close to duplicating his last outing when he defeated Baltimore with the lone run given up in a complete game effort.

The Rockies have been fading over the last half ot the season and the past two weeks have been no different. Colorado has dropped seven of eleven following a 13-9 loss at the hands of the visiting Diamondbacks. The work on the mound and at the plate hasn't been consistent or strong lately and that is reflected in their record. The bats looked good but the pitching not so much Sunday with Juan Nicasio charged with seven runs on seven hits through 2.1 frames with Chad Bettis allowing six more in 1/3 of an inning. The offense fell short despite an impressive 19 hit attack that saw Todd Helton double tice and drive in four runs. Right hander Tyler Chatwood toes the rubber in game one of their series has struggled the past five times out where he has gone 0-2 with three no decisions where he has recorded one quality start.
I'm always leary of backing Lackey who was at his best when with the Angels but I am inclined to back him IF Boston plays a full lineup...
