The Tampa Bay Rays head to the Big Apple looking to lock up a Wild Card berth against the New York Yankees.
Tampa Bay might be the odds on favorite to capture on of the American League Wild Card berths but like they say, 'it's never over until it's over'. The rays took another step towards their goal with a 5-4 victory over Baltimore that saw the team rally from a 4-2 deficit. That was win number four in a row despite a poor effort from Chris Archer who was tagged for for four runs over 4.1 frames with six relievers tossing shut out ball. The bats cranked out nine hits and walked six times with Wil Myers rapping a two run single before James Loney clubbed a walk off homer in the 9th. Left hander Matt Moore will be on the bump looking to control the Yankees lineup Tuesday. Moore needs to rebound from one of his poorer efforts of 2013 with six runs allowed on seven hits in four innings of an 8-2 loss to Texas.

Even though the Yankees are just 4-6 over their last ten contests they are still alivefor a Wild Card berth although their chances are slim. If the Bronx Bombers are to have a chance then they might have to win out and hope for some help. New York took a step in the wrong direction Sunday in a 2-1 loss to visiting San Francisco where the bats were silent which squandered a great pitching effort from Andy Pettitte who allowed both runs through seven frames. The bats totaled nine hits and walked twice with Mark Reynolds the only source of scoring with a solo jack. New York turns to veteran Hiroki Kuroda to keep the Yankees playoff hopes alive against Tampa Bay. Kuroda has been struggling over his last ten outings with five quality starts where he has gone 1-6.
Another Tampa Bay win and it will be tough to keep this team out of the postseason and I'll ride their momentum. I don't like what I've seen from Moore lately but the price is right...
