The Oakland Athletics and Los Angeles Angels continue their AL West tilt on Wednesday.
Oakland has wrapped up the American League West crown, but still is trying to win games to wrap up the home field advantage while heading in to the postseason with a full head of steam. Despite Tuesday's 3-0 defeat, the Athletics have rattled off wins in eight of eleven behind impressive hitting and scoring. However, the bats were silent Tuesday and AJ Griffin paid the price with the loss with three runs plated over five frames. The bats totaled four hits and didn't threaten. Oakland hands the ball to Daniel Straily to contain the dangerous Angels offense on Wednesday. Straily has been white hot the past three trips to the mound where he has gone 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA.

In the grand scheme of things, this has been a disappointing season for the Angels with no postseason and a third place finish in the American League West. Los Angeles put themselves behind the eight ball with a painfully slow start to the season, but the team has worked their way to back to where they have a legitimate shot at reaching .500 with a good final week. The team took a step in that direction following Tuesday's win, where Jason Vargas was at his best with a complete game four hit shut out. That made life easy for the offense, who mustered just five hits with Howie Kendrick going deep, while Josh Hamilton rapped a two run single. Jered Weaver finishes off the season with his final start of the year aginst rival Oakland. Weaver suffered through a broken arm early in the 2013 campaign and now has some tightness in his forearm and will be a game day decision.
Beating Oakland two times in a row is no easy feat, but a healthy Weaver is completely capable and I'm not sure he is100%. Don't be surprised if he is scratched and I'm a bit gun shy in backing him...
