The New York Mets welcome the Milwaukee Brewers to Citi Field on Thursday.
Milwaukee has given Atlanta every thing they could handle and then some in their series with another win on Wednesday. Of course, it's too late to help the Brewers or the rest of the National League East, but it shows the Brew Crew still have some fight in them. Starter Kyle Lohse proved why he has been the best hurler in the rotation with a complete game, two-hit shut out to improve to 11-10. The offense made the performance a winning one, with 12 hits producing a solo bomb from Carlos Gomez, while Norichika Aoki smacked a pair of RBI singles. Milwaukee hands the ball to John Hellweg to slow down the surging Mets on Thursday. The rookie didn't receive a decision in a 7-6 loss to St Louis in which he allowed two runs over five frames.

The Mets lone goal of finishing 2013 with the third spot in the National League East moved forward Wednesday on the heels of a 1-0 win over Cincinnati which also hurt the Reds NL Central title hopes. Daisuke Matsuzaka out dueled Mat Latos and increased his chances of finding himself in the rotation next season with 7.2 scoreless frames to even his record at 3-3. The offense mustered four hits with Eric Young smacking a run scoring single in the 3rd which plated Wilfredo Tovar who walked. Dillon Gee will be on the bump to face Milwaukee while trying to match his career high of 13 victories. Gee comes in off of a 5-4 win over the Phillies with four runs given up on seven hits in six innings.
I would think the Mets have an edge here on the mound, but New York wins when unexpected and loses when unexpected. I'll back them but hate them as favotites...
