Atlanta Braves vs. Philadelphia Phillies Free Pick 9/28/13

The Atlanta Braves and the Philadelphia Phillies continue their series in Atlanta on Saturday.

The Atlanta Braves didn’t get a ton of offense on Friday but they got just enough to get the win. Chris Johnson hit a home run and Andrelton Simmons and Freddie Freeman each had hits as the Braves scored one run on three hits in all. Starting pitcher Kris Medlen allowed just to hits and struck out seven over 8.0 innings to get the win and Craig Kimbrel earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Braves start Mike Minor who is 13-8 with a 3.22 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 4.74 ERA in his last three starts.

The Philadelphia Phillies never got a run across the plate on Friday and they lost despite a big pitching effort. Cesar Hernandez and Chase Utley each had hits and Carlos Ruiz reached on a walk but the Phillies had four base runners total and didn’t score. Starting pitcher Cliff Lee allowed three hits and run while striking out 13 over 8.0 innings to take a brutal loss. For Saturday’s game the Philies start Ethan Martin who has been pitching mostly in relief of late but for the season is 2-5 with a 6.32 ERA.

Atlanta is 65-26 in their last 91 home games, 2-6 in game three of a series, and 0-4 in Minor’s last four starts. Philadelphia is 9-20 against a team with a winning record, 1-8 against the NL East, and 16-37 in their last 53 road games. Philadelphia is 2-7 in their last nine games in Atlanta.

The Phillies best chance to get a win was on Friday but in this one they are in trouble and I like the Braves to win no problem.
