The Boston Red Sox visit Camden Yards to face the rival Baltimore Orioles Friday.
The Americal League East champion Red Sox don't really have any thing to play for heading in to the final weekend of the regular season but I'm sure they would like to go in to the postseason with the momentum of a few wins. Boston took a big step in that direction with a 15-5 rout of Colorado on Wednesday which got starter Jake Peavy off the hook after he was charged with all five runs over six frames. The offense pounded out 16 hits with Shane Victorino smacking a three run bomb while Will Middlebrooks connected on a grand slam and three run jack. Clay Buchholz will be on the bump to face the dangerous offense of the Orioles on Friday. Buchholz suffered is only loss of 2013 in 4-2 decision to Toronto in which he gave up three runs (two earned) in six frames.

Baltimore has followed a six game slide with back to back victories but their recent skid has doomed their postseason hopes. The Orioles offense that was scoring at will earlier in the season has not been as fearsome which hasn't done the pitching any favors. The offense struggled once again Thursday but the work on the mound stood tall with Miguel Gonzalez shaking off a shaky first to allow a single unearned run on two hits through seven innings to improve to 11-8. The bats mustered nine hits with Matt Wieters going deep and driving in two while Nick Markakis doubled in another. Baltimore opens the series with the Red Sox with Scott Feldman on the bump. Feldman has been strong in eight consecutive outings and has gone 3-2 with run support and poor work out of the pen hurting him.
I don't know what kind of effort we'll see from either team but Buchholz doesn't want to lose again and the Orioles would like nothing better then to beat their rivals. For me a decent price on Buchholz isn't a bad deal but check the lineups first...
