The New York Yankees visit Minute Maid Park to begin a weekend series with the Houston Astros.
It always seems strange to see the Yankees not in the postseason but that is what we have in 2013. Age, injuries and some poor performances have taken their toll and have left the Bronx Bombers sitting in 4th in the American League East. The Yankees have lost eight of eleven following a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tampa Bay on Thursday. Starter Ivan Nova tossed a solid game with only two runs plated on eight hits over seven innings to fall to 9-6 on the year. The pen gave up two more but it didn't matter with the offense limited to only three hits. Veteran left hander Andy Pettitte makes his final career against Houston Friday night. Pettitte has been outstanding with eight consecutive quality starts where he has gone 3-2 with three no decisions.

Houston has struggled the entire season and the past few weeks have just been a continuation. The Astros dropped number 12 in a row following a 7-3 defeat at Texas Wedneday with the arms and bats still struggling. Starter Dallas Keuchel fell to 6-10 with all seven runs allowed (six earned) on six hits and three base on balls over 5.2 innings of work. The bats totaled eight hits and walked twice with Brandon Laird clubbing a two run homer and Chris Johnson singling in another that gave the Stros a 3-1 lead in the 4th. Rookie Brett Oberholtzer toes the rubber for his 9th start when he faces the Yankees in the series opener. Oberholtzer has logged seven quality starts in this stretch while going 4-4 with a no decision.
I am going to cut right to the chas as I like Oberholtzer but will be rooting for Pettitte top go out a winner so I'll back him for that reason...
