The Cincinnati Reds dropped game one of their series against the Pirates and they must win out to have a chance of hosting the NL Wildcard game. Todd Frazier hit a home run, Joey Votto had two hits, and Shin-Soo Choo had a hit as the Reds scored one run on six hits. Starting pitcher Homer Bailey allowed four hits and four runs while striking out three over 5.0 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game the Reds give the Ball to Bronson Arroyo who is 14-11 with a 3.60 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 3.44 ERA in his last three starts.

The Pittsburgh Pirates won game one of their series in Cincinnati on Friday night and with one more win they will host the National League Wildcard game. Pedro Alvarez hit a home run, Marlon Byrd had three hits, and Clint Barmes had a hit as the Pirates scored four runs on six hits. Starting pitcher A.J. Burnett allowed five hits and run while striking out six over 8.0 innings to get the win and Jason Grilli earned the save. For Saturday’s game the Pirates start Charlie Morton who is 7-4 with a 3.14 ERA for the season and 0-0 with a 1.80 ERA In his last three starts.
Cincinnati is 6-2 against a team with a winning record, 14-7 at home against a right-handed starter, and 1-4 in Arroyo’s last four starts. Pittsburgh is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 18-8 as an underdog, and 5-2 in Morton’s last seven road starts. Pittsburgh is 4-7 in their last 11 games in Cincinnati.
The Pirates got the best of it on Friday but look for the Reds to bounce back setting up the showdown on Sunday.
