The Miami Marlins and the Detroit Tigers face off on Saturday in Miami for the second to last game of the MLB season.
The Miami Marlins haven’t had a lot to cheer about this year but they did on Friday as they knocked off the Tigers in Miami. Placido Polanco, Giancarlo Stanton, and Christian Yellich each had hits as the Marlins scored thee runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Tom Koehler allowed five hits and two runs while striking out three over 5.1 innings to get the win and Steve Chisek got the save. For Saturday’s game the Marlins start Nathan Eovaldi who is 4-6 with a 3.50 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 4.02 ERA in his last three starts.

The Detroit Tigers Are headed to the post season but on Friday they unloaded the bench and played just about every position player on the expanded roster. Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila had two hits each and Austin Jackson had a hit as he Tigers scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Jose Alvarez allowed two hits and three runs while striking out three and lasting 2.2 innings to take the loss. For Saturday’s game the Tigers start Anibal Sanchez who is 14-8 with a 2.64 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 2.89 ERA in his last three starts.
Miami is 6-11 in their last 17 home games, 17-35 in their last 52 games, and 1-5 in Eovaldi’s last six starts. Detroit is 8-1 in their last nine interleague games, 11-5 in their last 16 games, and 10-2 in Sanchez’s last 12 starts as a favorite.
The Tigers made it clear on Friday that they don’t care too much about these games so don’t look for the starters to play much giving the Marlins a solid chance in this one at a price at home.
