The Washington Nationals look to finish the year with a road sweep of the Diamondbacks.
Washington made a late season push to capture a spot in the postseason for the second year in a row before finally running out of gas. However, the Nationals are the only team with a winning record that will not be in the playoffs which might be a good trivia question but that's about it. The Nats shut out Arizona 2-0 Saturday for back to back victories behind Dan Haren who improved to 10-14 with four hit given up over seven scoreless frames. The Nats six hit attack was just enough with Chad Tracy going deep to give Haren all he needed. Rookie Tanner Roark toes the rubber against the host Diamonbacks on Sunday. Roark has been successful in limited opportunities with a 7-1 record with a 1.74 ERA as he hopes to land a spot with the Nats in 2014.

The Diamondbacks were looking good in the first several months but fell victim to the Dodgers huges second half run to finish second in the National League West. The Snakes lone remaining goal was to finish 2013 with a winning record but those hopes went by the wayside with Saturday's defeat. Now the D-Backs need a win to finish at .500 which wouldn't have been an issue if the offense had given Brandon McCarthy some support. McCarthy allowed both runs on five hits through seven frames to fall to 5-11 with the bats mustering just five hits with a few chances left on the bases. Left hander Wade Miley is scheduled to get the ball in Sunday's finale' versus visiting Washington. Miley was at his best last time out with a four hit shut out over six innings against San Diego.
Miley obviously has a huge advantage in the experience department but Roark has a pretty good team behind him so I'm going for the better odds...
