The Toronto Blue Jays and the Tampa Bay Rays face off on Sunday in a meaningful matchup on the final day of the 2013 MLB Baseball season.
The Toronto Blue Jays have had a lousy season but they have a chance to ruin the Rays season if they can win again on Sunday. On Saturday Ryan Goins and Kevin Pillar each hit home runs and Brett Lawrie and Adam Lind each had two hits as the Blue Jays scored seven runs on 12 hits. Starting pitcher J.A. Happ allowed five hits and a run over 7.1 innings to get the win. For Sunday’s game the Blue Jays start Todd Redmond who is 4-2 with a 3.77 ERA for the season and 1-0 with a 1.89 ERA in his last three starts.

The Tampa Bay Rays appeared to be a lock for the Wildcard for the American League but now they need to win to insure there is a tomorrow as there are just a number of scenarios that surround their tie with the Texas Rangers for the final post-season spot. The Rays hurt themselves on Saturday as Ben Zobrist and Wil Myers each had two hits and James Loney had a hit as Tampa Bay scored just two runs on six hits taking a loss. Starting pitcher Chris Archer allowed five hits and run lasting just 2.1 innings as it was Alexander Torres who took the loss. For Sunday’s game the Rays start Matt Moore who is 16-4 with a 3.23 ERA for the season and 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA in his last three starts.
Toronto is 1-4 in their last five games against a left-handed starter, 1-4 in game three of a series, and 4-1 in Redmond’s last five starts. Tampa Bay is 7-2 in their last nine games, 6-3 in their last nine road games, and 14-2 in Moore’s last 16 road starts. The Rays are 36-17 in the last 53 meetings of these two.
I expect the Rays to leave nothing in the tank for this one and with Moore I like their chances of getting it done.
