The National League Wild Card will be decided Tuesday when the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates square off.
When Cincinnati hosted the Pirates over the weekend the team knew they would be facing the Buccos for the Wild Card but they didn't know where. The Pirates ended that mystery by sweeping the Reds who head to PNC Park for Tuesday's match up. The key in this game will be scoring some runs which Cincy did not do in the final series with only six runs scored in three games. The work on the mound wasn't special either with 16 runs allowed but in the scope of things the last two games mattered little with the home field determined Friday. Cincinnati will put their postseason hopes on the shoulders of Johnny Cueto who has been on the disabled list three times. Cueto has tossed two games since coming off the DL with a single earned run allowed on eight hits over 12 frames.

If you are a Pittsburgh fan you are painfully aware that this team hasn't been in the postseason in what seems like forever. The Pirates had shown some playoff potential over the past few years but have stumbled over the latter part of the each season before finally breaking through in 2013. The Buccos did enjoy a stay at the top of the National League Central before yielding to St Louis but this team was probably more of a victim of playing in the toughest division in the National League. In the end the pitching dependent Pirates received enough from their arms to make due with what their clutch offense was able to put on the scoreboard. Left hander Francisco Liriano gets the ball in the Wild Card battle with with the Reds on Tuesday. Liriano has been a major reason the Pirates are in the postseason with his 16-8 record and 3.02 ERA.
I hate to go against Cueto who has out standing career numbers against Pittsburgh but I have been riding Liriano all season and Cueto has been mostly hurt. The Pirates at home in what is really a toss up for now...
