The Tampa Bay Rays visit Fenway Park to face the Boston Red Sox in the opener of the ALDS Friday.
Tampa Bay might have the momentum factor on their side after beating Texas in the WC tie breaker before upending Cleveland 4-0 in the Wild Card on Wednesday with both games on the road. The Rays have received solid pitching and clutch hitting in both although it was outstanding work on the mound from Alex Cobb that stole the show versus the Indians. Cobb gave up eight hits and walked one over 6.1 shut out innings to pick up the win. The Rays didn't crush the ball with their eight hits but that was morethen enough with Delmon Young going deep while Desmond Jennings doubled in two 4th inning runs. Tampa Bay sends lefty Matt Moore to the bump to face Boston in game one of the ALDS. Moore finished the regular season with consecutive victories where he gave up three runs on nine hits and nine BB in 10.1 innings.

Boston was buried in the American League East standings a year ago and many expected there would be little improvement in 2013. The experts were dead wrong as the Red Sox stormed to the division lead and never blinked an eye once there as the slump and slow down that was anticipated never came. The reason this team won one of the toughest divisions in baseball comes down to avoiding losing streaks of any significant duration and they can thank a potent offense that averaged over five runs per game for that. The Red Sox were tops in the AL with a .277 BA, 6th in home runs with 178 and 4th with 123 SB so this club could score runs in any manner of ways. The pitching posted a 3.79 ERA which was near the middle of the pack but more then adequate with the run support. Boston sends Jon Lester to the hill hoping he can kick the postseason off with a victory. Lester ended the regular season with the season with a no decision at Baltimore where he allowed four runs on nine hits over five frames.
I think Tampa Bay might have an edge because they have been playing and Boston has been idle but I do know Boston played some type of intrasquad game Wednesday. I'm going with the Red Sox and will sleep on it...
