The Line: Boston Red Sox / Tampa Bay Rays --- Over/Under: See the Latest Odds
The Tampa bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox play game one of their ALDS series on Friday afternoon at Fenway Park.
The Tampa Bay Rays seem to have been playing do or die games for weeks now as they needed to win to get into a playoff, a win in the playoff against the Rangers, and a win in the AL Wildcard game over the Indians to reach the ALDS. The Rays have won eight of their last 10 games, are 41-41 on the road this season, and they outscored their opponents by 54 runs this season. As a team the Rays are hitting .257 with James Loney hitting .299, WIl Myers hitting .293, and Evan Longoria hitting .269 but in the Wildcard round it was Delmon Young who got the scoring started hitting a home run. For game one in Boston the Rays start Matt Moore who is 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA this season and 2-1 with a 5.02 ERA in his last three starts.

The Boston Red Sox have the home field advantage in the American League finishing with the best record and are well rested, not playing since Sunday. The Red Sox were 53-28 at home this season and they outscored their opponents by 197 runs this season. The Red Sox have lost four of their last five home games against the Rays but have won two of their last three at Tampa Bay. As a team the Red Sox are hitting .277 with David Ortiz hitting .309, Daniel Nava hitting .309, and Dustin Pedroia hitting .301. For game one of the ALDS the Red Sox start Jon Lester who is 15-8 on the season with a 3.75 ERA and 2-0 with a 2.70 ERA in his last three starts.
Tampa Bay is 10-1 in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record, 4-1 in their last five ALDS road games, 3-7 in their last 10 games as an underdog, and 16-5 in Moore’s last 21 road starts. Boston is 10-3 in their last 13 games against a left-handed starter, 22-10 in their last 32 games, 1-4 in their last five ALDS games, and 11-2 in Lester’s last 13 home starts. Tampa Bay has won four of their last five games in Boston.
Lester and Moore pitched on back to back nights but not against each other when these two teams face off in July in Boston with Moore pitching a complete game shutout and Lester going 6.1 innings allowing seven hits and two runs so while these teams can hit the cover off the ball, these pitchers don’t look like they will get hit here making the under my free pick here. I also have a play on the winning side and I will give out that FREE PICK on Friday’s 1stQuarter Podcast.
