The Boston Red Sox host the Tampa Bay Rays in game two of their ALDS at Fenway Park Saturday.
Tampa Bay looked great in defeating Texas in the Wild Card tie breaker and then knocking off white hot Cleveland to advance to the ALDS but the good times ended Friday in a 12-2 defeat at Fenway Park. The Rays have been bouncing back from losses nicely with good pitching and hitting and will need to Saturday with neither unit getting the job done in game number one. Starter Matt Moore has been outstanding but simply didn't have his best stuff Friday with eight runs allowed through 4.1 innings before Jamey Wright was charged with four runs in the 8th. The offense mustered just four hits and walked three times with Sean Rodriguez going deep while Ben Zobrist smacked a run scoring single. Wild Card play off hero David Price will be on the mound Saturday hoping to contain the big bats of Boston. Price stopped Texas on the road 5-2 on seven hits and a walk in a complete game performance.

The Red Sox were not expected to be in the postseason, let alone win the American League East but here they are thanks to decent pitching and a monster offense. The danger in game number one of the ALDS was a long lay off causing some rustiness but that turned out to be a non worry with great work on the mound and at the plate. Jon Lester picked up the win with both runs given up on three hits and a trio of free pass through 7.2 innings while striking out seven. Boston hammered out 14 hits and walked five times that saw Jarrod Saltalamacchia drive in three while Shane Victorino and Jonny Gomes knocked in a pair of runs each. Boston turns to right hander John Lackey to pitch his team to a 2-0 series lead over the visiting Rays on Saturday. Lackey has enjoyed a pretty good 2013 but struggled lately with one quality start in four outings.
When Boston is hitting the ball like they did Friday I could probably pitch for them and get the win. My thinking is the Rays obviously need this and if they are to steal one this could be their last chance with Price on the mound which still might be a stretch...
