The St. Louis Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates face off on Sunday in Pittsburgh for game three of their NLDS series.
The St. Louis Cardinals jumped all over the Pirates in game one of their NLDS series but in game two it was them on the receiving end of a thumping as they were blown out by the Pirates. Yadier Molina hit a home run, Matt Adams had two hits, and Carlos Beltran added a hit but it was one run off of four hits in all. Lance Lynn had a bad day as he allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out six and lasting just 4.1 innings to take the game two loss. For Sunday’s game three at PNC Park the Cards start Joe Kelly who is 10-5 with a 2.69 ERA for the season and 1-2 with a 3.18 ERA in his last three starts.

The Pittsburgh Pirates seem unaffected by getting stomped in game one in St. Louis as Manager Clint Hurdle seemingly laughed it off during the game but they used that loose attitude to shake it all off and put it behind them as the Bucs clobbered the Cardinals in game two. Starling Marte and Pedro Alvarez both hit home runs and Justin Morneau added two hits as the Pirates pounded out 10 runs and seven hits. Starting pitcher Gerrit Cole had it all working as he allowed just two hits and a run over 6.0 innings to get his first post season win in his fist post season start. For Sunday’s game the Pirates start Francisco Liriano who was the winner I the NL Wildcard game over Cincinnati and who is 17-8 with a 2.95 ERA and 1-1 with a 3.15 ERA in his last three starts.
St. Louis is 19-7 in their last 26 games, 2-5 in their last seven games as an underdog, 1-4 in their last five playoff games, and 9-2 in Kelly’s last 11 starts. Pittsburgh is 5-1 in their last six games, 14-6 following an off day, 3-12 in game three of a series, and 8-1 in Liriano’s last nine home starts. St. Louis has won five of the last six meetings of these two.
Expect not much offense here and for Liriano to still be on his game while Kelly has been a pleasant surprise for the Cards. I see the under being a logical play but at 6.5 it might be a shade low as both of these teams have been taking rips and both of the first two games went over and I see this one doing the same. I will also have a pick on the winning side that I will post in the Premium Area.
