The Los Angeles Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Friday in game one of the NLCS at St. Louis.
The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to finish off their strong season by reaching the pinnacle of every baseball season: The World Series. The Dodgers reached this series by winning the NL west and then bouncing the Atlanta Braves from the NLCS in four games. Hanley Ramirez is hitting .500 for the post season, Yasiel Puig is hitting .471, Juan Uribe is hitting .375, and Carl Crawford is hitting .353 with a team high three home runs. For game one in St. Louis the Dodgers give the ball the Zach Greinke who is 15-5 with a 2.65 ERA for the season and 0-2 with a 1.59 ERA in his last three starts. Greinke last faced the Cardinals on August 5, 2013 when he allowed eight hits and two runs striking out four over 6.1 innings to get the win in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals had to battle all season and then in the opening round of the playoffs, the NLDS against the Pirates, they had to battle again winning in five games. Pete Kozma led the way hitting .400 in four games while Matt Adams hit .316, Matt Holliday hit .300, and Yadier Molina hit .294 over five games. For game one of the series the Cardinals start Joe Kelly who is 10-5 on the season with a 2.71 ERA and 1-1 with a 2.60 ERA in his last three starts. Kelly faced the Dodgers at home this season on August 6, 2013 going 5.1 innings and allowing six hits, one run, and striking out just one batter to get the win.
The Cardinals won the season series over the Dodgers 4-3 with the difference maker being in May when they won 2 of 3 in Los Angeles, at a time when the Dodgers were hardly looking like the team they are today. The Dodgers won the last two meetings of these two with both of those games being in St. Louis.
Los Angeles is 8-1 in their last nine games following an off day, 4-1 against a team with a winning record, 35-16 in their last 51 road games, and 4-1 in Greinke’s last five starts as a road favorite. St. Louis is 6-0 in their last six games as a home underdog, 8-2 following an off day, 0-4 in their last four playoff games as an underdog, and 6-1 in Kelly’s last seven home starts. Los Angeles is 17-35 in their last 52 games in St. Louis.
Nerves should be high but look for this game and this series to belong to the strong pitching of both teams and as good as the hitters are in both lineups, I lean to the under here. My stronger play is on the winning side and I will post that pick in the Premium Area.
