Detroit looks to avoid elimination and knot the ALCS 3-3 against the Red Sox on Saturday.
Detroit couldn't over come early problems on the mound and at the plate in a 4-3 loss to the Red Sox in game five. A late rally and solid relief pitching simply weren't enough as starter Anibal Sanchez and his early struggles have the Tigers staring at elimination Saturday. Sanchez gave up all four runs (three earned) on nine hits and a wild pitch as Boston jumped out to a 4-0 lead after three innings. The heavy hitting Tigers logged ten hits and walked three times but never broke it open despite numerous opportunities. Miguel Cabrera and Brayan Pena smacked RBI singles with another run platted on a DP ground out. The Tigers send Max Scherzer to the bump in game six versus the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Scherzer has been dominant in three postseason appearances in which he has allowed just three runs on on five hits through 14 innings.

An early scoring burst and some clutch work on the mound lifted the Red Sox past Detroit in game five and gave them a 3-2 lead in the ALCS with the series heading back to Boston with a chance to wrap things up. The Red Sox jumped on Anibal Sanchez for a 4-0 lead and watched their pitching squeak out of a few tight spots to hold on. Starter John Lester allowed a pair of runs on seven hits and a trio of base on balls through 5.1 frames with Junichi Tazawa giving up another before Koji Ueherapicked up a five out save. Thebats totaled ten hits and walked twice with Mike Napoli leading the way with three hits, a solo home run and a pair of runs scored while David Ross and Jacoby Ellsbury recorded RBI hits. Clay Buchholz toes the rubber in game number six looking to bounce back from a poor outing against Detroit. Buchholz did not receive a decision in a 6-5 win where he allowed five runs over 5.2 frames.
Buchholz looked bad against Scherzer in their first match up before the Detroit pen imploded. I think Buchholz is better then he showed and wants to prove it to clinch the series...
