The St Louis Cardinals open game one of the World Series on the road at Fenway Park.
The road to the World Series certainly wasn't a cake walk for the Cardinals who had to fight both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati for most of 2013 to win the National League Central. The Redbirds knocked of the Buccos to win the NLDS before ousting the Dodgers in the NLCS in six games. I have said many times throughout the season that the Cardinals are always a threat because they had the best combination of hitting and pitching in the National League although it was the solid work on the mound that really carried this team past a dangerous Los Angeles. The Dodgers were held to 13 runs in six games with six scored in game five before the Cards put everything together in the clincher by a 9-0 count. The Cardinals open the World Series with Adam Wainwright on the bump. Wainwright has been solid in three postseason starts with only four runs given up over 23 innings where he has gone 2-1.

If you are looking for a nice story then you have one sitting right in front of you in the Red Sox. Boston was a shambles in 2012 and was one of the poorer teams in the American League but have gone from worse to first in the East and seemingly did it with little problem. They can thank their big offense for that as their bats turned opposing pitching in to a mere inconvienience. Staying healthy was obviously a plus but consistency was just as important as the wall many experts expected this team to hit never appeared as the runs flowed. The work on the mound wasn't nearly as sharp as many teams but all the Red Sox needed was to keep things close and wait for that big inning. That happened several times in the ALDS and two grand slams in the ALCS versus Detroit are prime examples. Left hander Jon Lester gets the series opening start on Wednesday at Fenway Park. Lester has three postseason outings under his belt where he has gone 2-1 with five runs given up over 19.2 frames.
I think the Cardinals will win the series first off because the DH should help them the most and their pitching is better in my view. That is also why I am going with the over which right or wrong fits in to my DH theory...
