The St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox meet on Thursday Night at Fenway Park for game two of the 2013 World Series.
The St. Louis Cardinals know they gave the Boston Red Sox game one of the World Series and the know to a man they are simply going to have to play better or this series is going to be over quickly. The Cardinals committed three errors which Boston jumped all over and with the Cardinals bats not responding the game was one sided and never in doubt. Matt Holliday had two hits including a home run and Allen Craig and Yadier Molina added hits but the Cardinals scored just one run on seven hits in the loss. Starting pitcher Adam Wainwright allowed six hits and five runs with three of them being earned as he struck out four and lasted just five innings taking the loss. For game 2 the Cardinals give the ball to rookie Michael Wacha who is 7-1 on the season with a 2.21 ERA and 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA in his last three starts. I would look for the Cardinals to execute the fundamentals much better than we saw on Wednesday.

The Boston Red Sox were given chances on Wednesday Night and they took advantage of them routing the Cardinals and sending them a message as well. David Ortiz had two hits including a home run and three RBI’s, Dustin Pedroia had two hits, and Mike Napoli drove in three runs as the Red Sox powered in eight runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher Jon Lester had little resistance as he allowed five hits and struck out eight over 7.2 scoreless innings to get the win while Ryan Denpster allowed two hits and a run in just an inning of work. For Thursday’s game the Red Sox start John Lackey who is 12-13 with a 3.49 ERA for the season ad 2-1 with a 4.00 ERA in his last three starts. The Red Sox know the Cardinals aren’t going to roll over so they will be pressing and swinging away once again here.
St. Louis is 4-1 in game two of a series, 47-20 following a loss, 2-5 in their last seven road games, and 5-0 in Wacha’s last five starts against a team with a winning record. Boston is 9-0 in their last nine World Series games, 5-1 in their last six games against a right handed starter, 9-3 in their last 12 game two of a series, and 5-1 in Lackey’s last six starts.
I am expecting to see more sound baseball in this one and that means less if no errors and less scoring and my free pick for Game 2 is going to be the under. I have a strong play on the winning team and I will post that World Series Game 2 Pick today in the Premium Area.
