The Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals face off on Monday in St. Louis for game 5 of the 2013 World Series.
The Boston Red Sox pulled even on Sunday beating the Cardinals 4-2. In game four of the World Series. David Ortiz had three hits and scored the Red Sox first run, Dustin Pedroia had a hit and scored, but the real offensive hero of game four was Jonny Gomes who hit a three run home run which was the difference maker. Clay Buchholz started for Boston allowing three hits and run but he lasted just four innings before Felix Doubront came in and pitched 2.2 innings getting the win and Koji Uehara earned the save and ended the game picking Nathan Wong off of first base. For Monday’s game the Red Sox start Jon Lester who was the winner in game one of the series in Boston shutting the Cardinals down and for the season he is 18-9 with a 3.52 ERA and 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA in his last three games.

The St. Louis Cardinals got the early lead on the Red Sox in game four of the World Series on Sunday but they were unable to hold on and lost knotting the series at two games each. Matt Carpenter had two hits and scored a run, Shane Robinson had a hit and scored, and Carlos Beltran had a hit and drove in a run but the Cardinals scored just two runs on six hits. Starting pitcher Lance Lynn wasn’t bad allowing three hits and three runs while striking out five over 5.2 innings but he was painted with the loss. For game five the Cardinals start Adam Wainwright who was the game one loser giving up too many hits and of course he was the victim of some bad errors as the Cards look lost in that outing. For the season Wainwright is 21-11 with a 2.87 ERA and 1-2 with a 2.57 ERA in his last three starts.
Boston is 5-1 in their last six World Series road games, 8-3 in their last 11 games against the NL Central, 31-15 in their last 46 games overall, and 5-2 in Lester’s last seven starts. St. Louis is 4-0 in their last four home games against a left-handed starter, 38-13 in their last 51 home games, 15-6 in their last 21 games overall, and 21-8 in Wainwright’s last 29 home starts.
The under has come in five of the last seven times these two teams have met and I don’t see it being any different tonight as my free pick is on the under. I have a pick on the winning side which I will post in the Premium Area where I have correctly predicted the winner of each World Series game this season thus far.
