The St Louis Cardinals host the Boston Red Sox with the series tied at two games apiece.
The Red Sox showed no ill effects from their disappointing and strange loss Saturday to upend the Cardinals 4-2 to even the series 2-2. Starter Clay Buchholz and his bum shoulder lasted four frames with an unearned run allowed on three hits and three walks followed by Felix Doubront who was charged with a run over 2.2 innings. Five relievers took care of business and the Boston bats came through in the clutch with their six hit, four walk attack. A sacrifice fly plated the first run before Jonny Gomes deposited a three run homer in to the left field bull pen that scored Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz. The Red Sox send left hander Jon Lester to the bump looking for his second victory of the World Series. Lester defeated the Cardinals 8-1 with a five hit shut out over 7.2 frames while striking out eight.

It was another weird finish to a competitive series when pinch runner Kolton Wong was picked off first for the final out of the game with Carlos Beltran at the plate. The Cardinals were hoping to steal one with Lance Lynn on the mound but no such luck with the right hander allowing three runs on three hits and a trio of base on balls with five K's through 5.2 innings pitched to take the loss. Although Lynn was charged with the defeat even though it was Seth Maness that served up the three run bomb to Gomes and the bats were never able to recover. The Redbirds mustered six hits and four free passes with Carlos Beltran and Matt Carpenter rapping run scoring singles. Allen Craig drove a ball to the right field fence in the 9th but a bad ankle held him to a single which proved to be costly when Wong was picked off. The Redbirds turn to ace Adam Wainwright for the game five start versus Boston on Monday. Wainwright struggled in an 8-1 loss in the series opener with five runs allowed (three earned) on six hits over five innings.
I wonder how game five is going to end? Probably not with Wong on base who won't get off the bench for obvious reasons. This is a rematch on the mound from game one and I don't know if there is a strong side but I do know lefties give the Cards fits so lean to Boston...
