The Milwaukee Brewers will host the Atlanta Braves on Monday afternoon to begin the 2014 MLB season.
The Atlanta Braves won 96 games last season but ended up losing in the LDS to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Still, the Braves return majority of last year’s roster and hope they can get a big boost from young pitcher Julio Teheran, who is starting the game against the Rangers. Teheran finished last season with a 14-8 record and a 3.20 ERA. Julio Teheran’s only appearance against the Brewers resulted in a loss where he pitched 6.1 innings, allowed 8 hits and 2 earned runs. Teheran is a strike out pitcher, averaging 8.2 strike outs per nine innings pitched.

Last season was a disappointment for the Brewers, as they finished with a 74-88 record and dealt with the Ryan Braun nonsense. This season should be a lot more successful for the Brewers, especially with the addition of starting pitcher Matt Garza. Yovani Gallardo will start this game for the Brewers, and he finished last season with a 12-10 record and a 4.18 ERA. Gallardo is 4-1 in his career against the Braves with a 2.01 ERA and has 40 strikeouts in 49.1 innings.
The Braves are 9-4 in Teheran's last 13 starts and 35-17 in their last 52 during game 1 of a series. The Brewers are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter and 7-2 in Gallardo's last 9 starts. The Braves are 1-8 in the last 9 meetings in Milwaukee.
This game could really go either way, but you have to go with the home team on Opening Day, especially with Gallardo having so much success in his career against the Braves.
