The Toronto Blue Jays open their season south of the border against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday.
Toronto made some big moves to position themselves for a run at the American League East title but spending money doesn't always translate in to success as the team was never in the division race. The Jays stood pat in the off season hoping to give he current roster another shot with RA Dickey and Mark Buehrle heading the rotation that struggled to over a 4.80 ERA a season ago. The offense remains dangerous and full of potential especially if Jose Bautista can stay healthy but essentially we are looking at the same team we saw in 2013. RA Dickey gets the opening day start after going 14-13 with a 4.31 ERA in his first season with the Jays.

If Tampa Bay can score some runs for their guys on the mound this could be a banner year at Tropicana Field especially if David Price returns to his Cy Young form of 2012. With a rotation that includes Alex Cobb, Matt Moore and Chris Archer the top four pitchers are as good as any team in the East can put out there. Getting these guys some runs was a problem a year ago and proved you still have to score to win in this game. James Loney's return gives the team a run producer (75 RBI) but Evan Longoria will be the foundation after team highs of 32 HR and 88 RBI's. The question is what will the rest of the lineup do. Price gets the ball to open 2014 after going 10-8 with a 3.33 ERA a year ago.
These teams were disappointing at different levels a season ago and are looking for big things in 2014. This one comes down to Tampa Bay being able to hit and score against the knuckleballer...
