The New York Mets and the Washington Nationals face off on Wednesday at Citi Field for games tow of the NL East MLB series.
The New York Mets looked to be headed to a win on opening day but they let it slip away and let it turn into a loss. Andrew Brown hit a three run home run, David Wright had three hits including a home run and Juan Lagares had two hits including a home run and scored three runs as he Mets scored seven runs on seven hits in losing effort. Dillon Gee allowed four hits and four runs while striking out five over 6.2 innings to not factor in the decision as Scott Rice and Bobby Parnell each had blown saves and Jeurys Familia allowed two hits and two runs taking the loss. For game two against the nationals the Mets start Bartolo Colon who is coming off of a huge year. Last season in Oakland Colon went 18-6 with a 2.65 ERA allowing 193 hits and 56 earned runs while striking out 117 over 190.1 innings.

The Washington Nationals appeared to be in trouble on Opening Day in New York but they battled back to get the win. Anthony Rendon had two hits including a home run, Adam LaRoche had a home run, and Jayson Werth and Ryan Zimmerman had hits as the Nationals scored nine runs on nine hits. Stephen Strasburg allowed five hits and four runs while striking out 10 over 6.0 innings to not factor in the decision as Aaron Barrett got the win. For Wednesday’s game Washington starts Gio Gonzalez who had a monster start to last season but tailed off at the end. For the year Gonzalez went 11-8 with a 3.36 ERA as he allowed 169 hits and 73 earned runs while striking out 192 over 192 innings.
New York is 10-21 in their last 31 games as an underdog, 3-12 against a left-handed starter, 1-5 in their last six home games, and 8-21 following an off day. Washington is 7-2 following an off day, 20-7 against the NL East, 16-7 in their last 23 road games, and 15-2 in Gonzalez’s last 17 starts as a road favorite. Washington is 21-6 in their last 27 games in New York.
I am expecting the pitchers to rule this one and it is a strong play on this one on the under.
