The Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles will square off Thursday in a rubber game. The Red Sox beat the Orioles in game 2 on Wednesday, 6-2.
Unlike in the first game, the Red Sox bats woke up, as David Ortiz and Mike Napoli went deep. Pitcher John Lackey also went six innings, allowing just two runs and striking out six. To decide the series, the Red Sox will throw out Felix Doubront, who was 11-6 last year with an ERA of 4.32. Doubront allows his fair share of runs, but he also strikes out a good percentage of his batters, as he struck out 139 batters in 162.1 innings pitched last season.

The Orioles just didn’t get a good outing out of Ubaldo Jimenez, who gave up five hits and four earned runs in six innings. The Orioles lineup wasn’t any better, as the 2-4 hitters finished a combined 0-11 at the plate. Wei-Tin Chen will get the start for the Orioles in game 3. Chen finished last season with a 7-7 record and an ERA of 4.07. This is only Chen’s third season in the league, but he’s racked up a decent 10-8 record and 3.92 in his career starts at home.
The Red Sox are 6-1 in their last 7 road games vs. a left-handed starter and 5-0 in Doubronts last 5 road starts. The Orioles are 7-1 in their last 8 home games vs. a left-handed starter and 8-3 in Chens last 11 home starts. The Orioles are 5-2 in Chens last 7 starts vs. Red Sox.
I don't trust Doubront on the road. Doubront can get wild at times and does give up more runs than I like. Chen has been lights at home and has had his fair share of success against Boston.
Give me the Orioles at home.
