The Detroit Tigers will go for the sweep over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday afternoon. The Tigers beat the Royals 2-1 on Wednesday in extra innings.
The Royals offense has really struggled out of the gate, scoring just four combined runs in the first two games. In Wednesday’s loss, the Royals lineup struck out seven times and finished 0-7 with RISP. Yordano Ventura will at least try to keep the Kansas City pitching up to par on Thursday afternoon. Ventura pitched in just three games last year and finished the season with a 3.52 ERA. Ventura is a young strikeout pitcher with a high ceiling and struck out 11 batters in just 15.1 innings pitched last season.

The Tigers lineup isn’t any hotter than the Royals, but it helps when Max Scherzer lasts eight innings without allowing a run. Miguel Cabrera is 1-7 from the plate in his first two games. On Thursday, Anibal Sanchez will get the nod for the Tigers. Sanchez finished last season with a 14-8 record and an ERA of 2.57. At home last season, Sanchez was 8-3 with an ERA of 2.70. Against Kansas City in his career, Sanchez is 3-2 with an ERA of 0.99, as he’s allowed just four runs in 36.1 innings against the Royals.
The Royals are 6-2 in their last 8 Thursday games. The Tigers are 7-1 in Sanchezs last 8 starts vs. American League Central and 1-4 in their last 5 during game 3 of a series. The Royals are 7-19 in the last 26 meetings in Detroit.
While Ventura has great stuff and will be a pitcher to watch closely this season, the Royals bats have been dead early in the year. Sanchez has also been money when pitching at home. The price may not be great, but I don't see the Tigers losing this game.
Take Detroit for the sweep.
