The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks meet for game one of their series on Friday at Coors Field.
The Colorado Rockies opened their season with a rough trip to Florida losing three of their first four games. Michael Cuddyer is hitting .412, Justin Morneau is hitting .385, and Carlos Gonzalez is hitting .333. The Rockies pitching starting pitching staff has an ERA of 6.53 and the bullpen is at 8.03 for a team ERA of 7.09. For the home opener The Rockies start Juan Nicasio who went 9-9 with a 5.14 ERA last season allowing 168 hits and 90 earned runs while striking out 119 over 157.2 innings.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are off to a 1-5 start to the season and they are sitting in last place in the AL West. The D-Backs started the season in Australia against the Dodgers then were beaten up at home by the Giants. Chris Owings is hitting .444, Paul Goldschmidt is hitting .423, and Gerardo Parra is hitting .318. The Arizona starters have an ERA of 5.97 and the relievers have a team ERA of 2.76 for a team ERA of 4.80. For Friday’s game the Diamondbacks start Randall Delgado who has pitched two-thirds of an inning this season in relief but he is coming off of a season where he went 5-7 with a 4.26 ERA allowing 116 hits and striking out 79 over 116.1 innings.
Colorado is 2-5 in their last seven games as a favorite, 4-10 in their last 14 games after allowing five or more runs their previous game, and 1-5 in Nicasio’s last six starts. Arizona is 2-5 in their last seven games against a right-handed starter, 2-6 following a loss, and 1-4 in Delgado’s last five road starts. Arizona is 4-1 in the last five meetings of these two.
Neither of these teams did much but the Rockies have traditionally been tough at home and I have to believe that for their home opener they are tough here.
