The Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletics will play game 2 on Friday night after a 12-inning game on Thursday. The Athletics won the first game, 3-2, after a CoCo Crisp homerun in the bottom of the 12th.
The loss drops the Mariners to 3-1 on the season, as they just couldn’t muster up enough offense to get the victory. Seattle’s lineup generated just six hits and nine strikeouts. However, the Mariners pitching was solid in a losing effort and Chris Young hopes to build on that in his first start of the season. Young spent his last two seasons with the New York Mets and finished 2012 with a 4-9 record and an ERA of 4.15. Young did not pitch last season due to injury and is 2-1 in four career starts against the A’s.
USA TODAY Sports
The Athletics improve to 2-2 on the season, as the pitching rotation continues to stand tall. The A’s bullpen lasted six innings without allowing a run, while Jesse Chavez allowed five hits and two runs in the first six innings. Dan Straily will get the start in this matchup. Straily finished last year with a 10-8 record and an ERA of 3.96. Straily is 0-1 in his career against the Mariners and has allowed 12 runs in 12.2 innings.
The Mariners are 2-6 in their last 8 road games vs. a right-handed starter and 4-1 in their last 5 road games. The Athletics are 4-1 in Strailys last 5 starts as a favorite and 7-3 in Strailys last 10 home starts.
While Straily has been great at home, he's been absolutely brutal against the Mariners in his career. Give the fact this is probably the best Seattle team he's faced, I see value in the Mariners in this matchup.
Give me the Mariners and the plus money.
