The Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs will play game two of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon. The Phillies beat the Cubs 7-2 on Friday.
With the win, the Phillies improved to 2-2 on the season, as they received a big boost from Chase Utley and John Mayberry Jr., two players who homered in the win. The Phillies pitching has also been solid since allowing 10 runs on opening day, and Cliff Lee hopes to continue that trend. This will be Lee’s second start and he hopes it’s better than the eight earned runs he allowed in five inning son opening day. Lee is 4-0 with an ERA of 1.95 in seven career starts against the Cubs.

The Cubs are 1-3 on the season and have scored no more than three runs in any of their first four games. Besides allowing seven runs on Friday, the Cubs starting pitching has done a solid job of keeping them in games. Jeff Samardzija will start his second game of the year, as he allowed no runs and just five hits in seven innings on opening day. Samardzija was 3-5 with an ERA of 4.76 in 17 starts at home last season. Samardzija is 1-3 with a 10.80 ERA in nine career games against the Phillies.
The Phillies are 2-8 in Lees last 10 starts vs. National League Central and 5-2 in Lees last 7 starts as a favorite. The Cubs are 0-5 in Samardzijas last 5 starts and 9-25 in their last 34 home games overall. The Phillies are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Chicago.
Maybe I'm crazy, but I see value in taking the Cubs here. Lee looked absolutely awful in his opening day start, while Samardzija did everything in his power to give the Cubs an opening day win, they just couldn't score. While Chicago's offense is clearly going to be an issue this season, I like Samardzija to have another nice outing and get Chicago in the W column.
