The Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies face off on Sunday at Wrigley field for game three of their series.
The Chicago Cubs came into this season with the attitude that there is no quick fix and that they wanted to build their team and thus far they have shown very little to prove they are fixed or even in the process of being fixed. On Saturday Starlin Castro had three hits and Emilio Bonifacio and Anthony Rizzo each had two hits as the Cubs failed to score a run on 10 hits. Starting pitcher Jeff Samardzjia allowed six hits and two earned run while striking out eight over 7.0 innings of work to take the loss and fall to 0-1 for the season. For Sunday’s game the Cubs look to avoid the sweep as they start Carlos Villanueva who has been absolutely awful working out of the bullpen this season. In two appearances Villanueva has allowed four hits and two runs and striking out one over 1.1 innings of work for an 0-2 record and a 13.50 ERA.

The Philadelphia Phillies have missed the post season the past two years and as they are somewhat flying under the radar they look to be better than they have been in recent years. On Saturday Chase Utley had three hits including a home run and Ben Revere and Ryan Howard each had hits as the Phillies scored two runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Cliff Lee allowed 10 hits and struck out six over 7.0 innings to go to 2-0 on the season and Jonathan Papelbon earned his first save of the year. For Sunday’s game the Phillies start A.J. Burnett who had a no decision against Texas in his first start of the year. In Burnett’s first start he allowed seven hits and a run while striking out three over 6.0 innings of work.
Chicago is 18-38 in their last 56 home games, 2-6 against the NL East, 4-15 in game three of a series, and 1-5 in Villanueva’s last six starts. Philadelphia is 5-11 in their last 16 games, 18-38 in their last 56 rod games, 7-21 on the road against a right-handed starter, and 1-5 in game three of a series. Philadelphia is 7-2 in their last nine games in Chicago.
With warmer temps expected in Chicago look for it to be a day for the hitters and I like the over.
I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
