The Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers meet Friday in MLB action from Comerica Park. Baltimore is fresh off a series versus the Cardinals. After a split in the first pair, on Thursday in the rubber match the O’s eked out a one-run win. As for Detroit, they played a lengthy series versus Oakland this week. The Tigers won just one of the first four games. On Thursday, Detroit fell by two runs. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Baltimore managed to post a 5-3 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday in the opener. In game two the O’s were drilled 10-1, though. On Thursday, Baltimore bagged two runs in the seventh on the way to a 3-2 victory. Bryan Baker led off the pitching attack with 2.1 clean innings, one hit, no walks and three Ks.

For the starter gig in the Friday game, the Orioles will send out Jordan Lyles. Over six starts this year Lyles is 2-2 with a 4.05 ERA. In 33.1 innings of work he’s got 39 hits, 15 earned, 11 walks and 26 strikeouts total.

Over on the Tigers’ side, they won 6-0 Tuesday over the A’s; Detroit fell 2-0, 4-1 and 9-0 in three of the first four games, though. On Thursday in the finale the Tigers gave up three runs in the first inning and limped to a 5-3 loss. Beau Brieske lasted 6.0 innings with two earned, four hits and three walks in the start.

Eduardo Rodriguez will take the mound for the Tigers in the Friday matchup. Across his six starts so far Rodriguez is 0-2 with a 4.50 ERA. In 32.0 innings he’s posted 26 hits, 16 earned runs, 11 walks and 31 Ks.

The Orioles are 51-112 in their last 163 overall and 26-57 in their last 83 Friday games. Baltimore is 48-118 in their last 166 in game one of a series.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 15-39 in their last 54 Friday games and 7-21 in their last 28 overall. Detroit is 1-4 in their last five in game one of a series.

PICK: I’m going to take a stab on Baltimore. All things considered, this should be a pretty competitive weekend series. Lyles has been solid in his last pair, posting 13.1 combined innings with three earned on 14 hits and four walks. As for Rodriguez, he gave up four earned to the Dodgers but then bounced back with one earned in 6.2 innings at Houston his last time out. Should be a fun matchup; I’m leaning Baltimore in a tight game.
