The Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox close out their weekend series on Sunday in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Royals didn’t make it easy but they did what it took to win on Saturday for their second time in two games against the White Sox. Salvador Perez had a hit and knocked in the game winning run, Billy Butler had a hit and two RBI’s, and Alex Gordon had two hits as the Royals scored four runs on seven hits. Starting pitcher Bruce Chen allowed six hits and an unearned run while striking out seven over 6.1 innings to get a no decision as Wade Davis got the win after he also blew the save and Greg Holland earned the save. For Sunday’s game the Royals start James Shields who had a no decision in his first start allowing five hits and three runs while striking out three over 6.1 innings in Detroit.

The Chicago White Sox won their first two games this season but they have now lost their last three including the one run loss on Saturday. Conor Gillaspie and Alexei Ramirez each had two hits and Jose Abreu, Dayan Viciedo, and Adam Eaton all had hits as the White Sox scored three runs on eight hits. Starting pitcher John Danks allowed five hits and three runs while striking out six over 7.0 innings for a no decision as Scott Downs took the loss. For Sunday’s game the White Sox start Chris Sale who had a win in his first start. In his first outing Sale allowed five hits and three runs while striking out eight over 7.1 innings for a 3.68 ERA.
Kansas City is 5-1 in their last six home games, 7-1 against a left-handed starter, and 18-6 in Shields’ last 24 starts. Chicago is 19-41 against the AL Central, 9-26 in their last 35 games, and 2-7 in Sale’s last nine road starts. Chicago is 1-5 in the last six meetings against the Royals.
This is going to be a good one and while both of these pitchers can deal, I don’t think either factors in the decision and I like the White Sox to avoid the sweep.
