The Tampa Bay Rays will look to sweep the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon. The Rays took a 2-0 series lead on Saturday with a 5-4 victory.
With all of the firepower on the Rangers lineup, they’re really struggling to put runs on the board early on. The Rangers have been held to four or less runs in four straight games since scoring 10 runs on opening day. Maybe with Yu Darvish making his first start of the season, Texas won’t need much run support. Darvish returns from injury and hopes to follow up last season when he finished 13-9 with an ERA of 2.83. Darvish is 2-0 against the Rays in three career starts and has an ERA of 1.35.
USA TODAY Sports
The Rays have won three straight and have scored a combined 19 runs in those victories. In Saturday’s win, the Rays struck out only three times and managed to score five runs on only seven hits. On Sunday, Alex Cobb will make his second start of the season and hopes to rebound after allowing four runs in five innings. Last year, Cobb was 7-0 at home and had an ERA of 2.81. Cobb has started just three career games against the Rangers and is 1-0 with a 3.79 ERA.
The Rangers are 10-2 in Darvishs last 12 starts during game 3 of a series and 1-4 in their last 5 road games vs. a right-handed starter. The Rays are 11-2 in Cobbs last 13 starts during game 3 of a series and 8-2 in Cobbs last 10 starts vs. American League West. The Rangers are 2-5 in the last 7 meetings.
Not sure what's going on with the Rangers, but I don't like it. I also don't like Darvish coming off the DL and pitching on the road. I do like the way the Rays have been playing, and Cobb is amazing when pitching in front of his home fans.
Give me the Rays as slight underdogs.
