The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cincinnati Reds face off on Monday in St. Louis as the Cardinals play their home Opening Day.
The St. Louis Cardinals opened their season with six consecutive road games splitting them 3-3 against the teams they battled it out for the NL Central with last season, the Cincinnati Reds and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Cardinals are a game back in the National League Central standings and overall they have been outscored by five runs. Matt Adams is St. Louis’ leading hitter averaging .318, Matt Carpenter is hitting .286, Jon Jay is hitting .286, and Kolten Wong is hitting .250, For game one against the Reds the Cards start Michael Wacha who had a no decision in Cardinals loss at Cincinnati. In his one outing Wacha allowed three hits and struck out seven without allowing a run over 6.2 innings of work. The Central looks to be tough once again and the Cardinals are hoping to get back to the World Series where they came up short last season.

The Cincinnati Reds have gotten off to a slow start going 2-4 as the bats haven’t really shown up as of yet. The Reds are two games back in the NL Central and they have been outscored by four runs total though they are coming off of a win in New York on Sunday. Todd Frazier leads Cincinnati in hitting at .381, Ryan Ludwick is batting .316, Brandon Phillips is hitting .292, and Joey Votto is averaging .273. For game one in St. Louis the Reds start Tony Cingrani who had a no decision starting in the Reds lone win over the Cardinals in the earlier series. In his first outing CIngrani allowed two hits and struck out nine over 7.0 innings. The Reds will need to get it moving in a hurry as competition is going to tough a top the NL Central.
St. Louis is 4-1 at home against s left-handed starter, 16-7 against the NL Central, 8-3 in game one of a series, and 4-1 in Wacha’s last five home starts. Cincinnati is 3-7 on the road against a team with a winning record, 2-4 in their last six road games, 2-10 in their last 12 games, and 5-2 in Cingrani’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record. Cincinnati is 17-37 in their last 54 game sin St. Louis.
The Total is set at seven but these two pitchers faced off last week in Cincinnati and were basically unhittable so I expect another low scoring game making my free pick the under.
I also have a play on the winning side and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
