The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets face off on Tuesday at Turner Field for the Braves 2014 home opener.
The Atlanta Braves started their season with six road games and they head home at 4-2 and in second place in the National League East. The Braves are coming off of a loss on Sunday but they have outscored their opponents by six runs. Freddie Freeman is leading Atlanta in hitting at .421 with two home runs, Chris Johnson is hitting .304, and Andrelton Simmons is hitting .300. The Braves starting pitching staff has an ERA of 1.63 with the bullpen at 1.35 for a team ERA of 1.56. For Opening Day the Braves start Aaron Harang who got a win in his first start this year. Harang allowed two hits and struck out three over 6.2 scoreless innings in a 1-0 Braves win over the Brewers. Atlanta is a half of a game behind the Marlins in the NL East.
USA TODAY Sports
The New York Mets go on the road for this first time this season after starting the season with six home games and going 2-4. The Mets lost on Sunday and they have been outscored by nine runs so far this season. Juan Lagares is hitting .350 to lead new York, David Wright is hitting .238, and Ruben Tejada is hitting .222 as the Mets just aren’t hitting. For game on in Atlanta the Mets start Bartolo Colon who took a loss in his first start this year. In his first outing Colon allowed nine hits and three runs while striking out four over 6.0 innings in a loss against the Nationals. Colon is in his 15th Major League season.
Atlanta is 4-1 in their last five games, 6-2 against the NL East, 31-15 as a favorite, and 67-28 in their last 95 home games. New York is 6-1 in their last seven road games, 3-7 in their last 10 games, and 8-22 following an off day.
The Braves are playing much better but I look for Colon to come up big after a tough outing last time and I like the Mets here.
