The Philadelphia Phillies clash with the Milwaukee Brewers in their home opener Monday.
I don't know what the future holds for Milwaukee but I know the present has been pretty good. The Brewers capped off a three game road sweep of Boston with a 4-0 decision that has the team looking at a 4-2 start in the early going. Starter Yovani Gallardo improved to 2-0 with a seven hit shutout covering 6.2 frames and has not allowed a run yet. The offense didn't light up the scoreboard but didn't need to with a nine hit, two walk attack doing enough damage. Aramis Ramirez, Mark Reynolds and Jeff Bianchi drove in runs with Gallardo doing the rest. Milwaukee sends Kyle Lohse to the bump who is charged with controlling the Philadelphia bats Monday. Lohse dropped a 5-2 decision to Atlanta in his first outing with three runs allowed on five hits including two homers in seven innings.

The Phillies scored 14 runs in their season opener but in five games since they have scored 17 runs which has put the load on the pitching. The results are a 3-3 record as Sunday's 8-3 defeat at Wrigley Field prevented a sweep. Both the bats and arms had issues A four runs Cubs first was all the home team needed with four of the eight runs AJ Burnett gave up being unearned. Burnett struggled with his control with five hits and six walks issued in 5.2 innings while the bats didn't get going until the 9th when it was too late. Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley posted RBI's with Ben Revere scoring both times. Kyle Kendrick catches a lot of flack at times but he was nothing short of outstanding in his first start in which he allowed one run over seven innings but did not receive a decision in a 4-3 defeat.
It's the home opener for Philadelphia and the team will be fired up although that doesn't mean a guaranteed win. I'm going with Milwaukee who has played well thus far plus I have no idea what Kendrick will do...
