The Miami Marlins hope to continue their hot start when they visit the Washington Nationals for the first time.
Miami endured a miserable 2013 so their 4-2 start to kick off the new campaign is a welcome sight. The Marlins saw a three game winning streak and a chance to sweep the Padres go by the wayside in Sunday's 4-2 defeat. The Fish have been hitting the ball but not on this day which made a loser of Nathan Eovaldi who was touched for three runs on six hits covering six frames while striking out eight. The offense managed five hits and a single base on balls with Giancarlo Stanton and pinch hitter Jeff Baker knocking in runs. Henderson Alverez makes his second start of 2014 when he faces Washington Tuesday. Alverez fell to Colorado 6-5 with all six runs allowed (three earned) on on seven hits and a pair of BB in three innings.

After sweeping the Mets to begin the season with plenty of momentum the visiting Braves to be a much more difficult challenge. The Nationals dropped two games to their National League East rivals before salvaging the finale' 2-1 on Sunday. The offense totaled just five runs in the series but the work on the mound saved them Sunday. Taylor Jordan was at his best with lone run scored on six hits and a pair of free passes in 6.1 frames in a no decision effort. Three relievers put zeros on the scoreboard and the Nats made the most of four hits with Ian Desmond cracking his second homer of the year in the 7th to break a 1-1 tie. Left hander Gio Gonzalez looks to go 2-0 in the early going when he is slated to face visiting Miami on Tuesday. Gonzalez is coming off of a 5-1 victory over the Mets in which he gave up the lone run on just three hits in six frames.
