The San Diego Padres and Cleveland Indians play the might cap of their dobleheader Wednesday.
If you follow Major League Baseball you are familiar with the strengths and weaknesses of some teams and with San Diego the weakness has been at the plate although I would hesitate calling their pitching a strength. Neither has stood out in the early going with consistent scoring causing problems with four runs being a difficult number to achieve. The work on the mound has been up and down but as in season's past we know the pitching can be adequate but not strong enough on a regular basis to win without run support. Left hander Robbie Erlin makes his first start of 2014 in the second game of a twin bill at Cleveland. Erlin made eleven appearances a year ago including nine starts with a record of 3-3 with a 4.12 ERA.

If somebody can knock Detroit from their perch atop the American League Central it will probably be Cleveland or Kansas City with most experts tabbing the Tribe as the bigger threat. Balance is generally the key to winning any division and the Tigers have the best rotation in the Central so the question is can the Indians compete with their rotation and or hit their way past Detroit and Kansas City. Thus far we have seen solid performances all around for the Indians at times but not everytime out and my gut tells me this team will likely lean on the offense a bit more then the pitching as I'd say scoring runs is a strength. Cleveland hands the ball to Trevvor Bauer to start game number two of Wednesday's doubleheader with visiting San Diego. Bauer was a spot starter in 2013 with just four starts the entire season.
The second game of a doubleheader is tough to predict because players will sit and pitchers are sometimes guys making a spot start out of the pen or are call ups. I might be stepping out on the limb by taking San Diego because the Indians bats could pound the Padres pen if Erlin has problems or leaves the game so maybe look at other games out there...
