The Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Angles will wrap up a short two-game series on Wednesday. The Mariners won the first game, 5-3.
With the loss, the Angels fall to 3-5 on the season, as the lineup simply couldn’t get much going against the Seattle pitching. The lineup struck out nine times and produced only four hits. One of those hits happened to be the first homerun for Albert Pujols. In game 2, Garrett Richards will make his 31st career start. Richards allowed three hits and one run in five innings pitched in his first start against the Houston Astros, while striking out seven batters. Richards is 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA in three career starts against the Mariners.

The Mariners are one of the early surprise teams in the MLB, as they improve to 5-2 on the season. Seattle’s bullpen continues to pitch lights out, which has helped hold opponents to three runs or less in six of the Mariners first seven games. Roenis Elias hopes to get the same support when he makes his second career start. Elias lasted five innings and allowed just two hits and one run in his first start against the Oakland Athletics. Elias has quality stuff and could lead to more problems for Los Angeles hitters.
The Angels are 3-8 in Richards' last 11 road starts and 1-7 in Richards' last 8 road starts vs. a team with a winning record. The Mariners are 3-8 in their last 11 vs. a team with a losing record and 4-0 in their last 4 during game 2 of a series. The Angels are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings.
I’m starting to become a believer in the Mariners and really like what Elias brings to the table. Elias is a pitcher nobody on the Angeles staff has seen before, and he’s sure to cause headaches in this game with his quality stuff.
With the cheap price, the home team and the Mariners who are on fire right now, I’ll take Seattle for the sweep.
