The Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants will meet Thursday in the rubber matchup. The Diamondbacks won game 2, 7-3.
With the win, the Diamondbacks improve to 3-8 on the season, and their offense got going for the first time all season. Arizona came away with 12 hits and set the tone early by scoring three runs in the first inning. Still, the Diamondbacks have been held to three or less runs in five games this season. That’s why Arizona’s pitching is so important, and Randall Delgado will hope to bounce back after a poor start to the season. Delgado is 0-1 on the year with an ERA of 11.57 in just 4.2 innings pitched. However, Delgado has been terrific against the Giants, as he’s 1-1 with an ERA of 0.96 in three career starts.
USA TODAY Sports
For the first time all year, the Giants bats were quiet, as San Fran produced nine hits and less than seven runs for only the second time in six games. Tim Lincecum proved he’s a shell of himself, allowing seven runs and seven hits in four innings. Ryan Vogelsong will hope for a better outing in his second start, as he allowed four runs in four innings of work against the Dodgers. Vogelson was 3-3 at home last season with an ERA of 5.29, and he’s 2-4 with a 4.48 ERA in 10 career starts against the Diamondbacks.
The Diamondbacks are 8-2 in their last 10 during game 3 of a series and 1-4 in Delgado's last 5 starts. The Giants are 7-0 in their last 7 home games vs. a right-handed starter and 18-8 in Vogelsong's last 26 home starts. The Giants are 1-4 in Vogelsong's last 5 starts vs. Diamondbacks, while the Diamondbacks are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings.
Give me the Giants at home with a pitcher who has been money pitching in San Francisco. The Diamondbacks have had trouble scoring runs for much of the beginning of the season and haven’t had much success playing against the Giants lately.
I'll take Vogelson and the Giants at home for the cheap price.
