The Toronto Blue Jays will go for the sweep over the Houston Astros when the two teams meet on Thursday. The Blue Jays won game 2, 7-3.
The Astros fall to 3-6 on the season and have lost six of their last seven games. Of course, a lot of these struggles have to do with an Astros lineup that can’t score runs, as Houston has scored three or less runs in seven games this season. The Astros struck out 13 times on Wednesday. And while the pitching hasn’t been much better, Dallas Keuchel will get the start for the Houston in game 3. Keuchel allowed four runs in just five innings in his first start and is 1-0 with a 3.77 ERA in two career starts against the Blue Jays.
USA TODAY Sports
The Blue Jays have won three of their last four games and are getting the job done offensively. Melky Cabrera and Jose Bautista have combined for eight homeruns this season. Pitching wise, the Blue Jays have held five of their last nine opponents to three or less runs. The Blue Jays ace in R.A. Dickey will make the start in game 3. Dickey is 1-1 this season with a 4.63 ERA and has 10 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched. Dickey is 2-2 with a 3.99 ERA in seven career starts against the Astros.
The Astros are 1-8 in Keuchel's last 9 starts and 23-52 in their last 75 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Blue Jays are 5-1 in Dickey's last 6 home starts and 1-5 in Dickey's last 6 starts during game 3 of a series. The Astros are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Toronto.
I’m not sure how anyone can back the Astros at this point, especially with Dickey taking the mound for the Blue Jays. The price may be hefty, but Toronto should have no problem getting the job done and sweeping Houston.
Take the Blue Jays at home.
