The Los Angeles Angels return home to host the New York Mets for a three-game series beginning on Friday.
The Mets are 4-5 on the season and are coming off a 2-1 series victory over the Atlanta Braves. The Mets pitching staff has allowed four or less runs in six straight games and Juan Lagares leads the team with nine RBI. Dillon Gee hopes to keep the momentum going for the Mets when he makes his third start of the season. Gee is 0-0 on the season with a 4.50 ERA and has nine strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. This will be the first time Gee pitches against the Angels in his career.
USA TODAY Sports
The Angels have kind of turned things around lately, winning four of their last six games. Albert Pujols is looking like his old self, hitting two homeruns and scoring six runs, while the Angels pitching staff has allowed one or fewer runs in three of their last five games. Tyler Skaggs will try to keep up that production when he makes his second start of the year. Skaggs is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA, as he went eight innings and allowed just four hits in a victory over the Houston Astros. Much like Gee, this will be the first time Skaggs pitches against the Angels in his young career.
The Mets are 4-0 in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a losing record and 3-13 in their last 16 games vs. a left-handed starter. The Angels are 4-0 in their last 4 interleague games vs. a team with a losing record and 1-4 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series. The over is 4-1-4 in the last 9 meetings.
I like the way the Angels have been hitting the ball lately and the pitching staff has looked sharp. Meanwhile, Gee took advantage of a poor Houston team in his last start and can get a little crazy with his pitches at times.
I'll take the Angels at home for the cheap price.
