The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees play their second of a four game series on Friday.
Boston dropped to 4-6 on the season after losing the first of a four game series to the Yankees last night. The Red Sox are batting .277 as a team so far this season while scoring 35 runs. Boston is one of the best teams at working the count and making pitchers work to get them out. The Red Sox have one the highest on base percentages in the league at .349 so far this year. Mike Napoli is leading the Red Sox with a .333 batting average along with 2 homeruns and 8 RBIs. Jackie Bradley Jr. is batting .400 with 5 RBIs and 5 runs in limited action this season. Jon Lester will take the mound for the Red Sox after losing his first two games on the season. Lester gave up only 2 runs on 6 hits in 7 innings of work against Baltimore in the season opener. Lester allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 7 innings of action against the Brewers last weekend in his second loss. Boston did not give Lester any run support in either game, getting shutout against the Brewers and managing only one run against the Orioles to open the season.

The Yankees defeated the Red Sox last night 4-1 to improve to 5-5 on the season. The New York Yankees are batting .271 as a team this season with 33 runs. New York is also one the best teams at staying alive at the plate and working the count no matter what the outcome may be. The Yankees have an on base percentage of .346 and a slugging percentage of .392 so far this season. Yangervis Solarte is batting a team-high .429 and has 7 RBIs so far this season. Kelly Johnson is batting .280 with 2 homeruns and 5 RBIs. C.C. Sabathia will take the mound for the Yankees in this one having split his first two games of the season. Sabathia lost his first outing to Houston, allowing 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out six batters. Sabathia allowed runs on 7 hits in six innings of work against Toronto and earned himself a win last weekend. New York would like nothing more than to win their first series against the defending champs, let alone the Red Sox, at home this season.
This should be a hard fought game as these two teams just don’t like one another and their aces will be on the mound. Lester has looked strong early on, but hasn’t had the run support. Sabathia has not looked sharp in his first two outings, so I have to give the edge to Lester and Boston. The lineups are about even in my opinion, as both teams do a great job working through each at bat and making the pitcher earn everything. I think Boston will get the win on Friday and Lester will finally get in the win column.
