The San Diego Padres and he Detroit Tigers face off on Friday at Petco Park in game one of theur interleague series.
The San Diego Padres are coming off of a win but they are in fourth place in the NL West. The Padres are 1-2 at home this season and they are three games out in the division race. Yasmani Grandal leads San Diego averaging .368, Everth Cabrera is hitting .333, and Chris Denorfia is averaging .286. The padres pitching staff has an ERA of 3.27 with the starters at 3.49 and the bullpen at 2.89. For game one against the Tigers the Padres start Andrew Cashner who is still looking for his first win of the year. For the season Cashner has allowed nine hits and three earned runs while striking out 11 over 12 innings for a 0-1 record and a 2.25 ERA.
USA TODAY Sports
The Detroit Tigers lead the American League Central but they have played just two road games this season. The Tigers are 1-1 on the road and they have a one game lead over the Indians in the AL Central. As a team the Tigers are hitting .278 with Austin Jackson hitting .357, Victor Martinez hitting .321, and Ina Kinsler hitting .313. The San Diego pitching staff has an ERA of 3.27 with the starters at 3.49 and the bullpen at 2.89. For game one against the Padres the Tigers start Rick Porcello who earned a win in his first start. In his first outing Porcello allowed three hits and a run while striking out three over 6.2 innings against the Orioles. San Diego is 2-6 in their last eight games, 1-4 in their last five interleague games, and 2-5 in Cashner’s last seven starts against a team with a winning record. Detroit is 5-2 in their last seven games, 1-4 in their last five interleague road games, and 5-2 in Porcello’s last seven road starts. Detroit is 5-1 in the last six meetings of these two.
Detroit is the better team but I like the Padres in this game with Cashner having the edge over Porcello on the mound.
