The Oakland Athletics hit the road to visit the Seattle Mariners for AL West action starting Friday night at 10:10PM from Safeco Field.
The Oakland Athletics moved to 6-3 on the year with a comfortable victory over the visiting Minnesota Twins Thursday evening 6-1. The Athletics were boosted in this one by a solid 13 hits and held the Twins to just 3 hits overall. A big reason for the A’s success in this one was the pitching outing of Dan Straily. Straily went 7 strong innings and allowed just 3 hits while fanning 5. Straily had strong command all day and was never challenged. Josh Donaldson led the way for the A’s with 3 RBI’s on 2-5 from the plate. Donaldson knocked in runs with a homer in the 3rd and a single in the 6th. The A’s now rank 10th in the majors in runs with 40 for the year.

Seattle currently sits at 5-3 on the year and is coming off an underwhelming performance against the Angles where they were blanked 2-0. The Mariners were one hit in the contest and could not get anything going offensively all game. The outing was a frustrating one for the M’s because their pitching was solid, with Roenis Elias throwing a pretty strong 5 innings and giving up just 4 hits, including a homer to Albert Pujols that made the difference in the contest. The Mariners one hit came from lead off man Abraham Almonte who had a single early in the contest.
These two teams have been solid early but the A’s have proven to be the superior offensive club this far. Despite their solid play offensively, I like Hernandez on the mound for the Mariners. At 2-0, he continues to dominate opponents and I like his play to be the difference as a strong 6+ inning outing pushes the Mariners to the win at home.
