The Tampa Bay Rays battle the Cincinnati Reds in game 2 of an early season inter-league play series Saturday at 1:10PM.
The Rays took game one from the Reds Friday night after withstanding a late rally that fell just short. The Rays dominated this game through 8 innings with rock solid pitching and just enough run support to build a 2-0 lead that was just enough to get the win. David Price moved to 2-0 on the year in a dominant showing that saw him strikeout 10 and allow just 4 hits on 8.1 innings pitched. Grant Balfour walked 3 when he entered the game but was able to hang out getting the decisive final out with the Reds threatening. Joyce and Longoria accounted for the two RBI’s that gave the Rays the run support needed to take game one on the road.

The Reds will look to even their series against the Rays after a too little, too late effort Friday night that saw them use great discipline at the plate late in the game to load the bases before failing to take advantage. Joey Votto knocked in a run in the bottom of the 9th and finished 1-3 for the game. Brandon Phillips finished 2-4 from the plate but all and all, the Reds offense was completely stymied by the pitching of David Price.
The Rays were able to overcome their offensive struggles behind a gem on the mount by Price. I don’t expect the Reds bats to be so quiet Saturday and I like them to get another strong outing from big arm pitcher Alfredo Simon (1-0). The Reds take game two at home and look to take the series Sunday.
