After the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds makeup their suspended game from Monday, they’ll begin the Tuesday matchup about an hour later.
The Pirates have lost four of their last five games and are desperate for any signs of life offensively. The good news is that the Pirates did score seven runs on Monday against the Reds before the game was suspended. Seven runs were the most the Pirates scored in five games. Pitching wise, Gerrit Cole will get the nod for the Pirates, as he’s 2-0 this season with a 3.46 ERA and has 13 strikeouts in 13 innings. Tuesday will be Cole’s first time pitching against the Reds in his career.

The Reds have lost four of their last six games and have also been searching for an offensive spark. Before scoring seven runs in the suspended game, the Reds scored four or less runs in seven of their last nine games. The Reds have gotten off to a very disappointing start to the season, but will have a chance to turn things around on Tuesday with Mike Leake getting the start. Leake is 1-1 this season with an ERA of 2.45, and he’s gotten 29 groundballs in just 14.2 innings of work. Against the Pirates in his career, Leake is 5-3 with an ERA of 3.22 in 15 starts.
The Pirates are 6-0 in Cole's last 6 starts as a favorite and 1-4 in their last 5 road games. The Reds are 4-1 in Leake's last 5 home starts and 1-4 in their last 5 games as an underdog. The Reds are 4-0 in Leake's last 4 home starts vs. Pirates and 5-2 in Leake's last 7 starts vs. Pirates.
This is going to be interesting considering these two teams play play a half a game before this one starts. Make sure to check the lineups before wagering. With that said, I'm going to go ahead and pick the better pitcher in this matchup with limited information. Cole has been money this season and seems to only be getting better each start.
Take the Pirates at the wonderful price.
